Andrew Drain, Lecturer in the School of Engineering & Advanced Technology, Massey University, will be presenting a paper entitled ‘Introduction to Needs Analysis for increasing first year engineering students’ ability in conceptual design’

The paper summarises how two senior (third year) students acted as student-student mentors to first year students whilst completing the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) 2015 Challenge, i.e. helping the Bambui community in Cameroon. It examines the process of information gathering and problem definition when challenged with a problem that is remote from New Zealand students’ physical, cultural and social identity.
